to participate in the celebration of the
36th Annual UN Peace Bell Ceremony

on Earth Day, Monday, 20 March 2006 at l:26 p.m. EST (Equinox)

The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. EST
in the United Nations Peace Bell Garden.

The annual tradition of ringing the UN Peace Bell at the exact moment of the Equinox on Earth Day (20-21 March) was initiated by John McConnell with the support of UN Secretary-General U Thant on 21 March 1971. This tradition marking the moment of the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere has been observed for 35 consecutive years at UN Headquarters. March 20, 2006 will mark its 36th anniversary at the United Nations.

To attend the ceremony, enter at the UN Visitor’s Entrance at 46th Street and First Avenue no later than 12:30 p.m. EST. The official invitation and picture identification are required for entry to the UN Peace Bell Ceremony.
